Baking soda is harmless to you but deadly to colonies of bacteria. Sodium bicarbonate is a mild alkali and dissolves in water, effectively removing the dirt. It eliminates odours by bringing molecules into a neutral state. There is a difference between baking powder and baking soda, both can be used as a cleaning agent, but the powder isn’t as effective as the sodium bicarate. White vinegar is harmless because it can be easily wiped with just one damp clean cloth.
How to use the baking soda for cleaning?
You will need to make a cleaning paste out of it, and if you wonder how to do that, it is pretty simple! Let us introduce you to the cleaning partner in crime – vinegar, of course! This is a completely eco-friendly way to clean your kitchen or bathroom. The mixture between those two causes an acid-based reaction which effectively dissolves tough dirt spots. You simply need to mix equal parts of the two ingredients, and you get yourself a cleaning paste that will leave every surface sparkling and even unclog your drains. For turning it into a spray, you will have to add a little water to the mixture to make it more liquid and pour it into a clean spray bottle. That way it will be easy for use on every corner of your home!
Tackle your carpets with baking soda
The same mixture that you have placed into a spray bottle will do a perfect job. Not only would it disinfect the fibres, it will also deodorize them. Simply spray some of it on the surface and let it air dry. Once it has dried, vacuum over it, to pick up the soda particles. Now your carpet is clean and fresh. Another thing that you can do is to get it damp with water, sprinkle some sodium bicarbonate and let it air dry once again. Vacuum over it, and it’s done!
A tip for your oven
In order to use baking soda in the cleaning of your self-cleaning oven, you will need to make the paste with vinegar. It really doesn’t matter if your furnace is self-cleaning or not, because you won’t be using that feature. The best time to do it is in the evening because if you want to achieve the best results, you will have to leave it overnight. Take all of the racks out and put the paste evenly on all sides and leave it like that. On the next day, the mixture will be dry, and because you will have to scrub more or less spray some water or vinegar on it. Then comes the heavy-lifting – scrubbing. Once you are done with this as well, you just need to wipe it off with a clean cloth or a sponge.

It is the easiest, the friendliest green and also effective homemade cleaning product with ingredients usually meant for cooking. But as we mentioned already, to mix them is very simple. Just take equal parts of vinegar and baking soda and stir them nicely in a glass or wooden container. Do not use a metallic one. And your paste is ready for work! And for unclogging your pipes, first, you need to pour a pot of boiling water down the drain. Then pour a cup of baking soda and a cup of vinegar inside. Cover the drain plug and wait around 10 minutes. The last step is to pour more boiling water once again, and your drain will be unclogged!
